"Waiting On" Wednesday #44

"Waiting On" is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

After being away for a few months I thought I'd jump back into WOW by picking three Winter 2014 releases I'm dying to get my hands on.

A MAD, WICKED FOLLY by Sharon Biggs Waller
Release Date: January 23rd, 2014 from Viking Juvenile
IMG_2669
Synopsis from the Author's Blog
The year is 1909. After posing nude for her illicit art class, Victoria Darling is expelled from her French finishing school and returns in disgrace to her home in London.  Shamed and scandalized, Vicky’s parents inform her that she is to marry the man they’ve selected.  But Vicky dreams of so much more, of the freedom to pursue her ambition of becoming a painter.  When she falls in with a group of suffragettes and when she connects with a working-class man who might be her artistic muse—or might be the love of her life, Vicky must figure out: just how much is she willing to sacrifice to pursue her dreams?

~London, Art, and a coming of age story set at the turn of the 20th century. Give me A Mad, Wicked Folly right now!

TIN STAR by Cecil Castellucci
Release Date: February 25th, 2014 from Roaring Brook Press
Tin Star

Synopsis from Goodreads
On their way to start a new life, Tula and her family travel on the Prairie Rose, a colony ship headed to a planet in the outer reaches of the galaxy. All is going well until the ship makes a stop at a remote space station, the Yertina Feray, and the colonist's leader, Brother Blue, beats Tula within an inch of her life. An alien, Heckleck, saves her and teaches her the ways of life on the space station.
When three humans crash land onto the station, Tula's desire for escape becomes irresistible, and her desire for companionship becomes unavoidable. But just as Tula begins to concoct a plan to get off the space station and kill Brother Blue, everything goes awry, and suddenly romance is the farthest thing from her mind.

~Reasons I will be buying Tin Star. 1). Its a YA book set in outer space. 2). There are aliens. 3). See reason 1 & 2.

MINDERS by Michele Jaffe
Release Date: January 30th from Razorbill

Minders
Synopsis from Goodreads
Q: If the boy you love commits a crime, would you turn him in?
Sadie Ames is a type-A teenager from the wealthy suburbs. She's been accepted to the prestigious Mind Corps Fellowship program, where she'll spend six weeks as an observer inside the head of Ford, a troubled boy with a passion for the crumbling architecture of the inner city. There's just one problem: Sadie's fallen in love with him.
Q: What if the crime is murder?
Ford Winters is haunted by the murder of his older brother, James. As Sadie falls deeper into his world, dazzled by the shimmering pinpricks of color that form images in his mind, she begins to think she knows him. Then Ford does something unthinkable.
Q: What if you saw it happen from inside his mind?
Back in her own body, Sadie is faced with the ultimate dilemma. With Ford's life in her hands, she must decide what is right and what is wrong. And how well she can really ever know someone, even someone she loves.

~The cover to Minders is mindblowing! (pun intended) Then upon reading the synopsis, I did this!
