Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish
~Carrie and I just couldn't pass up a chance to rant about this week's TTT Topic:
The Most Frustrating Characters EVER!!!
Carrie's Five:
I picked 5 characters that I wanted to smack, shake
or yell at. If you have read the books I’m sure you will understand why
but if not; I have a hard time with lying, keeping secrets, making
assumptions that lead to poor decisions and being
wishy washy. For the love of God, if you love him tell him. If you
don’t, say so. But my biggest pet peeve is wrapping your whole world
around a guy. Learn, grow, travel and enjoy discovering who you are
first. Okay, stepping off my soap box now.
#5 - Tris (in Insurgent)
#4 - Cassia (in Crossed)
#3 - Rhine (in Fever)
#2 - Belly (The Summer I Turned Pretty)
#1 - Bella (Twilight series but especially Breaking Dawn)

#5 - Lola (Lola and the Boy Next Door)
#4 - Samantha (Before I Fall)
#3 - Cate (in Born Wicked)
#2 - June (in Legend)
#1- Hannah (Thirteen Reasons Why)
Lola - While I liked LatBND as a whole, Lola really frustrated me. The way she treats Cricket for the majority of the book was inexcusable. Sometimes its not always about you.
Samantha - Before I Fall has become one of my favorite books but Samantha is a mean girl. It takes her a long time to set things right but even then it doesn't really excuse the awful things she did.
Cate - I detest how Cate treats her sisters and the secret she keeps from them. Have more respect and faith in your family. On a side note; she's also super judgy and I can't handle that.
June - Oh June...if I could have smacked you through the book I would have. Stop assuming you know everything and get a clue. ARGH!!! P.S. You got people killed...not cool.
Hannah - I only have one thing to say about Hannah. She could have gone to Clay for help but instead she gave up :( That makes me sadder then anything.

Yay, we agree on Rhine! I also thought she was annoying. I actually put down Born Wicked because a lot of people said the heroine was frustrating.

I agree with you on Tris. Bella and Hannah made my lists too. Definitely agree with you on Lola now that I think about it.
ReplyDeleteHannah and Bella made my list too. Thanks for sharing.
Here's mine

Ha I haven't read Fever but I agree with every single one of Carrie's 100% especially Tris in Insurgent I kept yelling at her throug out the book

Belly is such a good one. I didn't like that girl at all. And Rhine...I'm happy I finally called it quits with that series.
ReplyDeleteYes! I totally am with you about Lola. I was so worried about poor Cricket. I wanted to shake Lola, and say, look at what you are doing to this poor, totally amazing, boy! Wake up!
ReplyDeleteTris was frustrating for reals in Insurgent!!
ReplyDeleteGreat list!
Here's Mine
Gosh Tris, yes Carrie! I didn't like Divergent so I haven't even read Insurgent. I'll try Divergent again when it becomes available for me on audiobook - another format may help me NOT HATE it. I DO want to give it another chance since there's a movie. So, I can't even be frustrated with her in Insurgent since I didn't even like the first book!
ReplyDeleteAnd Shannon - YES on Sam. She made my list too. Mean, mean, mean. I was so frustrated with her mean-ness, her lack of empathy, and her people-pleasing attitude that it kept me from liking the book, which is rare for me.
I totally agree about having your whole world wrapped around a guy. Its not exactly sending the right message to the younger readers, and its extremely frustrating for the older readers who've been there, done that.

I love all of these lists so much! Carrie, I completely agree with your list of frustrating characteristics. Especially being wishy washy. Stop. It. I've only read Insurgent and Twilight, but I agree with both of those. Bella is one of the most annoying heroines ever, and for a lot of different reasons. Shannon, I've only read Lola from your list. But I'm right with you. Max was awful - why are you with him? Lola was so mean to Cricket. (Actually Etienne wasn't so nice to Anna in her book either).
ReplyDeleteJune was super annoying with her arrogance sometimes. You don't always know it all! Great list.
ReplyDeleteHannah? Really? Cool I guess. I was wondering how many of this week's blogs I'd go through before reaching Bella... Turns out: 3. Lol
ReplyDeleteVery interesting list, I think! Hehe, some of my favorite characters...but I think you're quite right. I actually do hate it when characters don't know what they want and then hurt and confuse a bunch of people as they're figuring it out :) Also, I totally forgot to add Belly to my list!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, characters who base their whole lives around a guy are mega-frustrating! I think Bella will be on quite a lot of lists by the end of the day... :-)
ReplyDeleteHere's my Top Ten.
OMG! Now I'm hesitant to read Insurgent! And Rhine..we are totally on the same page with that one. I ALMOST put Belly on my list, but there were other who were worse for me.
ReplyDeleteLol, funny that you put Lola, which you're totally right about btw, because I almost put Etienne on mine. And I LOVE June, but I see your point. :) She's pretty kick-ass in Prodigy though.
I almost put Lola on my list. And, I almost put Cassia, from Crossed specifically, too.
ReplyDeleteCarrie, I totally agree with you about girls not needing to wrap their whole lives around a guy. Girls so need to live their own life and be their ownself. So do boys for that matter. But, for whatever reason, I still love romances even with these types of girls in them. I know they're not real, but I know not everyone does.
