In My Mailbox #24

Hey everyone, Carrie here. There has been lots of drama lately and I've been trying to steer clear of it. I'm not sure what the future is for our IMM posts but I actually have fun things to show this week (and I love supporting authors) so please don't hold it against me.

All books shown are ones I bought or received between April 15th - April 28th. In My Mailbox is a meme created by Kristi@TheStorySiren, its purpose is to encourage blogger interaction, as well as highlight books for our readers. IMM is not only for books you have received through the mail, but also library, borrowed, and bought books.

Nifty Nook Book Deals #6

Every time I've done one of these posts it has been a huge success, so I'm back to do it again. Thanks to everyone who's shown their support since I wasn't sure how many people would find these posts helpful.

All title links go to Barnes & Noble so you can easily buy the books. BTW, I have no affiliation with B&N.com so I don't make any money off the sale of these books. Instead this post was inspired by the lack of attention Nook Books get in comparison to Kindle Books, which always seem to be on sale.

Adapt Me: The Graveyard Book

If there was ever a middle grade book that was sure to eventually be made into a movie, it would definitely have to be The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. Then it comes as no surprise that this is actually going to happen. Disney is behind the project with a script writer, direct and cast to come sometime in the future. Its very early stages so that's all the news I have for now.

The Graveyard Book was inspired by Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. However, instead of a young boy who's raised by wolves in the jungle, Gaiman tells the story of the last surviving child of a murdered family raised by ghosts in a graveyard.

I've yet to read the book but I've heard its fantastic. Gaiman is a visionary and his books have made great films. If you've read the book what do you think of the news? Excited? Sound of below!

Thanks to Deadline Hollywood for the news.

Adapt Me: Grave Sight

A few days ago it was announced that author Charlaine Harris would be having another of her books series (The Harper Connelly mysteries) adapted for the SyFy channel. The first was HBO's True Blood based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels. The Harper Connelly mysteries follow a young women who can sense the location and last memories of the dead ever since she was struck by lightening as a teenager. Along with her step-brother Tolliver, the pair try to help find missing people, dead bodies, and more. In the first novel Grave Sight, Harper and Tolliver try to help find a missing girl, only to uncover a murder in a small town in the Ozarks.

Kam Miller (Law and Order: SVU) is writing the pilot for SyFy. Its unclear right now if Grave Sight is going straight to series or whether just a pilot has been ordered. When I know the exact details on that I will let you all know.

I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with these books since its an adult mystery series but I actually love them more then the Sookie books. While there are only 4 books in the series, I was always holding out hope that they'd be more. Well if these is as close as I get to that then I'll take it! I always thought the novels would work well as a TV series and maybe these will inspire Charlaine or her publisher to put out more books.

If you've read the series, what are your thoughts? Who would you like to see play Harper and Tolliver? Sound off below and as I always promise I will keep you updated on this project as I hear more news.

Thanks to EW for the scoop.

Teaser Tuesday: The Alchemy of Forever & All I Ever Wanted

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!
  • Share the Title & Author, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Shannon's Teaser:

"You won't find any comfort in death," I promise her. "It's a void. It's nothing. You only want to die if you desire nothingness. If you don't want to be alone, that means you're still alive. There's hope."
"Who are you?" she asks. I can barely hear her voice over the wind.
I think back over my unnaturally long life--my childhood in London, swimming in the south of France, arriving in San Francisco in the 1960's--and scroll through all the names I've gone by starting with Seraphina and ending with Jennifer. I look her in the eye. "I am no one."

~pg. 57, The Alchemy of Forever by Avery Williams

Carrie's Teaser:

I'm supposed to be here with vengeance in mind, but all I can feel is the same need I've always felt when I think about him. I'm worrying about how I look. Courage isn't something you can conjure; it's either in you or it's not. I'm a coward.

~pg. 37, All I Ever Wanted by Vikki Wakefield
