Carrie and I have a vast idea of what makes a Kick-Ass Heroine. Is she brave? What about loyal? How much do we value a heroine who's determined or compassionate? To cover a wider range of characters we've broken our list up by genre but even after doing that, this was a super hard list to make. We love that YA authors keep creating such strong female protagonists. Way to Kick-Ass ladies!!!
Carrie's Top Five:
Paranormal - Rose from Vampire Academy
Dystopian - Tris from Divergent
Contemporary - Jessica from The Running Dream
Historical Fiction - Ismae from Grave Mercy
Fantasy - Katsa from Graceling
Shannon's Top Five:
Alternative History/Sci-Fi- Eva from What's Left of Me
Contemporary - Jordan from Catching Jordan
Fantasy - Cinder from Cinder
Which Kick-Ass Heroines are your favorites?

Love your lists! We have some of the same characters. Apparently I need to read Graceling.
ReplyDeleteOk, Divergent and Code Name Verity are sitting on my bedside table dying to be read.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the entire Graceling series, Fire's my personal favorite character. But I think all three are so strong in different ways.
Love that you split them up into different genres! So many of the knee jerk reactions are from paranormal or fantasy series - girls from all genres, even the realistic ones can be just as strong!
I enjoyed how you broke down your choices by genre. Great picks! Rose made my list as well.

What great choices! Carrie, I second all of yours (except The Running Dream, which I haven't read). All kickass girls! And Shannon, I think Verity and Maddy are two of the bravest people i have ever read about, and I'm so glad you put them on this list.
ReplyDeleteYay for Katsa, Carrie! She'd be at the top of my list! :) I'm so glad I'm seeing her on the lists I've read today.
ReplyDeleteI like your list! Katsa and Cinder would definitely make mine... and there are some of your selections I'm not familiar with at all. I'll have to check out these books. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOooh, you both have such awesome lists!
