Generally how long does it take you to write a review? How long after you've finish the book do you get around to writing it?
It usually takes me about 2 days to finish a review, but about only 45 minutes to actually write it, if that makes sense. I tend to write it, then go back and check it, then make a few changes and look at it again. I always want my reviews to be well-rounded, thoughtful and helpful to my readers, so they can best decide whether or not they want to read that particular book.
As for the second question, I write most of my reviews 1-3 days after having finished the book and very rarely wait longer then a week. I'm baffled by people who write reviews weeks or months later because I think its always best to write a review when the book is still fresh in your mind.

I write book reviews as soon as I can after reading the book. I find that helps me to remember the points I want to make. It generally takes me less than 30 minutes to write a review and post it, but I've been thinking of what I want to write as I'm reading, so it's all in my head. It's just a matter of getting it out! :)
ReplyDeleteI write my reviews right after finishing the book, and it usually takes me 30-45 minutes. That depends on how much a book makes me think though...some books leave me perplexed or sad or mad...and I need time to think through my confusion haha great question! :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I write a review depends on the book. Some books I tend to struggle writing reviews for - such as Thirteen Reasons Why. I always make notes as soon as I've finished, and stick a sticky note onto the book. Then I either write a proper review right away, or wait a couple of days. Sometimes I need longer than usual to process my thoughts!
ReplyDeleteAs for how long it takes to write one... Making the post it notes are quick, as they're just my initial thoughts. Then it takes me about 30-45 minutes to write the review, then I go back to check it again when I copy and paste it onto blogger.
I usually take some notes when I'm reading the book because honestly I have a terrible memory. Then after I read it I write up all my notes and then try to make sense of them. It usually takes a couple of days before I'm happy with it enough to post it.
ReplyDeleteI have struggled writing reviews too. I try and write it with in a few days after reading it but always right after I'm done I write a few notes to myself on how I felt afterwards. That helps me so much!! So if your close to the end of your book its a great idea to have a notepad handy. ;)
ReplyDeleteI usually write a review as soon after reading the book as I can, it usually takes me about half an hour or less to write it. But I don't post them right away, everything on my blog is scheduled. I have about three weeks worth of reviews saved up so if for some reason (school/work related) I can't read enough I have other reviews to fall back on.
ReplyDeleteSo, usually my review won't post until almost a month after I've read the book and written the review.
45 mins to write? WOW! Your a PRO! After finishing a book, I try and do an outline review, then I literally stare at my computer screen for hours trying to figure out how to start!... ay aye aye! but i am getting better :) haha!
ReplyDeletel actually used to do it the same day and if not the next but now l am rather behind!! (nearly 3 books, which is a lot for me)
ReplyDeleteI try to do it soon so l don't forget!
I write notes as l am reading a book etc .. probably takes me around an 45 mins/hour. Proof reading included! Depends l guess though! Interesting post
Between getting the images, the links, and typing up the review itself, and then checking it over for typos and errors, it takes me anywhere between half an hour to an hour to get it done. That doesn't include the time it takes to cross-post and advertise, though.
ReplyDeleteAs for when I post it, it's usually done the same day that I finish reading the book. Sometimes if my schedule has gotten wonky and I finished multiple books in a day but know that I'll end up going days without any blog content for posting, I'll spread out those reviews, having them post one a day instead of all on the same day, but that doesn't happen too often.
It usually takes me an hour to write a review. And I almost always write them almost immediately after I finish reading them while it is still incredibly fresh in my mind.
ReplyDeleteIt takes me a ridiculously long time to write the review. About 2 hrs, I'd say. Sometimes 3. I'm not actually writing per se, but sitting at the desk with a perplexed look on my face because I'm trying to decide to put it all together (most of the time). If I'm not sure about a book, I'll wait a week or so. If I know exactly how I feel about it, I'll try to dash off a review that day or the next. I see people here writing reviews on a daily basis and wonder how they do it!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great question. It's really interesting seeing the different answers.
ReplyDeleteIt takes me anywhere from 10-30 minutes to write a review, but usually closer to 10. I often write my reviews while working, so if I have a bunch of interruptions then it'll be closer to 30 minutes. I'll usually read it over again a day or so later and make a few changes, if any.
I try to give myself a few days between finishing a book and writing the review. Often I'll feel a little different after the initial hype (or annoyance) has worn off. I don't like to write my reviews longer than a few weeks after reading because otherwise I forget too much stuff.
