Where do you buy most of your books from? Do you purchase most of your them from an independent bookstore, larger chain or online? Or do you get them some other way?
For me I buy almost all my books from Borders, both in store and online, so I'm really saddened by the news that they'll be closing many of their stores due to financial problems. Hopefully they don't completely shut down. I do order from The Book Depository too, but usually only if I absolutely have to have the foreign cover of a book or when its a title I don't have to have right away. Unfortunately, there aren't any independent bookstores where I live, which is really a shame since I love shopping in them. Whenever I go visit my parents in Virginia, I always try and support the local bookstores in their town by picking up a few things.

Usually I buy them online or in store from Chapters (and even then only if it's an author I love or a series I plan on owning--they're expensive!)
ReplyDeleteI've recently ordered from the Book Depo. Though waiting for the book was hard, the money I saved was a MAJOR plus. I plan on using them more often!
I always shop from Borders too! I'm so sa they might be closing! I love the deals they have!
ReplyDeleteI buy most of my books online, whether it be Amazon or Book Depository.
ReplyDelete99.9% of mine come from Amazon. I do try to support the indie bookstores when possible, but unfortunately it's not too often that I'm able to do that.
ReplyDeleteI get most of my books from Swap.com and Paperback Swap....This definitely helps me keep my shelves from overflowing!
ReplyDeleteIf there's something I HAVE TO HAVE RIGHT THIS MINUTE I will buy it from Borders with a coupon!
Taming the Bookshelf
Most of my books come from second-hand stores, since for a very long time I had very little money and could really only afford a 'new' book when it cost $3 or less. More often now, I buy them from Amazon.ca, though.
ReplyDeleteUnless you're talking about ebooks, and then I get most of those through NetGalley.
I buy alot of my books from supermarkets? I don't know what you call them in the US but we have alot of stores like Walmart where they sell, a wide selection of books for a pretty cheap price!
ReplyDeleteSo I shop for books at Big W, Target and K-mart ;)
I usually shop at Barnes & Noble. Old habits as a former manager I guess and they are conveniently located. :)
ReplyDeleteI buy my books from Borders (in the store, not online) and Amazon. I used to buy them from the bookstore I worked at, but I don't go there anymore. I don't shop at the independent stores in my town too often, either, unless it's one of the used bookstores (but even that is rare, just because they're so far from my house), because they're too expensive.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised about Borders, because they've been having trouble for a long time, but I am disappointed, since I really dislike Barnes and Noble. If there's not a Borders near me when I move to Ohio, I will buying books primarily from Amazon, I think, unless I find an awesome bookstore in or near Kent.
Awww, that's so sad to hear about Borders. One of my favorite Borders near me closed last year, I was so sad. I hope things get better for them. Where I buy my books depends on what book I'm buying and how far I'm willing to drive to get it, haha. For a new release, it's either online, Borders, B&N, or even one of the small local bookstores if it's close enough. For an older book I usually buy it online because I can't find it in the stores anymore.
ReplyDeleteNow that I have a Nook I download basically every book I read, so I guess I buy almost all my books from B&N now. I didn't know if I was going to be able to adjust to not having actual books to put on the shelf, but I LOVE being able to take my entire collection of books anywhere I go.
ReplyDeleteWhen I buy new I almost always buy online through Amazon. Their prices tend to be the best (especially the bargain books) and I've had good experiences with them.
ReplyDeleteI get a lot of used books too. Mostly from library sales and local used book stores.
I used to only buy my books from Borders with their 40% off Borders Rewards coupons. However, that got quite expensive. Luckily, a $5 or Less Bookstore opened up near me. It's wonderful there! All their YA paperbacks are $2 and their YA hardcovers are only $3! Plus, they have old and new reads!
ReplyDeleteOh jeez...I usually buy them from where I can get the most bang for my buck.
ReplyDeleteBorders, Half Price Books, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Book Depo, and I've stumbled across a couple local places I'm going to start going to and checking out.
I think Borders would win, but just by a hair sometimes.
Their stores closing makes me pretty sad too.
